5th Commandment

The fifth commandment states that you shall not kill which applies too many controversial topics that we deal with today. One major debate is the pro-life vs. pro-choice debate which has become one of the major issues in America.

The pro-choice supporters believe in abortion for many reasons one including the fact that men cant get pregnant so they cant tell women what to do. The pro-life response is that although men cant get pregnant it doesn't make the fetus any less their child.

The pro-choice supporters also believe that a fetus doesn't have feelings or rights which is hard to be sure of. The pro-life supporters think that a fetus is a creation of God and that getting an abortion is as serious of a sin as killing someone.
Another pro-life issue is the issue of capital punishment which is the death penalty. The pro-life supporters believe that capital punishment is a very grave sin and that it is an excessive punishment for a persons  crimes.

Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin was a 17 year old boy from Florida with a bright future that was recently murdered by 28 year old George Zimmerman who claims self defense. The day Trayvon was killed he had just went to a store and bought candy and a drink and was walking back to his house. George Zimmerman who was very active in the neighborhood watch thought that Trayvon was doing something wrong. Zimmerman called the police and said that the boy looked suspicious and the dispatcher told him not to do anything himself but Zimmerman ignored this and approached Trayvon. Even though Trayvon was completely innocent Zimmerman attacked him and was carrying a gun; when the two men began to fight Trayvon yelled for help and then Zimmerman shot and killed him even though he was unarmed. Trayvon was known for being a good student and a good person and had a bright future without a criminal record. Zimmerman was known as a paranoid man who frequently called the police and especially reported black males to the police. George Zimmerman took his duty in the Neighborhood Watch very seriously and had helped solve many robberies but he should have known how dangerous it would be for him to have a weapon with him and how things could have ended up. Zimmerman had also been charged with battery against a police officer and resisting arrest. The police also didn’t treat this like a regular investigation and didn’t test Zimmerman for drugs or alcohol like they would for most homicide cases. Trayvon also only weighed about 140 pounds which wouldn’t mean he was much of a physical threat to George Zimmerman. Trayvon Martins family also wants Zimmerman to be persecuted for a hate crime because they believe that race played a card in the murder and even though Zimmerman’s Hispanic he still is racist. Zimmerman also shouldn’t be able to claim self defense because he was the one who was following Trayvon Martin.

The R Word

I think that the word retard can be acceptable at some times and unacceptable at others. I think if you say the word retard to the wrong person then it can be very hurtful and unacceptable. I also think that some people are too sensitive to the word and they aren't really affected by it. People shouldn't call handicapped people retards or say it around them and make them feel uncomfortable. If it really bothers people then you shouldn't say it around those people but if you are talking around people you know it wont affect i think its acceptable. People also cannot ban a word because some people are going to use it anyway so there is really no way to make it illegal effectively. I believe that the R word is okay as long as people don't hurt other peoples feelings by saying it.

Modern Slavery

Even today human trafficking is an issue, around the world there are millions of men, women and children being forced into slavery everyday. Barack Obama declared the month of January 2012 to slavery prevention month and Google has also gotten involved in slavery prevention. There are about 27 million people in slavery today that don't get paid but instead are threatened by the people they work for. Some of the people are forced to work through physical violence; others are forced to work by the people that they're in debt to even when they've paid. Even though slavery is illegal almost everywhere it still happens. We could end slavery by having businesses demand that the goods that they buy weren't made by slaves and by funding anti-slavery movements.
